International Law

One of the core components of Ukraine’s national child protection policy is the improvement of its legal and regulatory framework which includes implementation of the provisions of international law. To date, Ukraine has signed several international instruments for the protection of the rights of children.

First, it should be noted that Ukraine ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which is the core instrument that sets out the legal standards for the protection of children’s rights back on 27 February, 1991. The Convention subsequently entered into force on 27 September, 1991.

Second, it is of crucial importance to ratify a number of international treaties in the family law area developed by the Council of Europe and the Hague Conference on International Private Law which address the practical issues of promoting children’s rights and regulate parent-child relationships including both personal and economic matters.
